Artist's Description
The critically endangered Hawksbill sea turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata), is named for its narrow head and hawk-like beak. They commonly grow to 2.5 feet and weigh 175 pounds. Some turtles become accustomed to seeing SCUBA divers. This one was huge and swam right up to us in Cozumel, Mexico!
About Paula De Baleau
My passion is scuba diving and visually documenting the beauty of our underwater world. The currents can rip, and many subjects are constantly moving, making underwater photography quite challenging at times. With patience and a lot of luck my husband and I have been rewarded with some spectacular shots. I hope you enjoy the images as much as we do! They make thoughtful, unusual, one of a kind gifts. If you don't see the image size you want, or have a special request, please contact me. Chances are I can make it happen! A special thanks to everyone who visits. You really make my day! Amazing photo! Great work. Voted
Paula De Baleau replied:
Thank you Amy! This turtle was HUGE. She (?) swam right up to us...Many of the older Hawksbills in Cozumel are acclimated to seeing divers. Some seem to know the "daily divemasters" and come by for a scratch on the shell. It's like a turtle spa! LOL
Paula De Baleau replied:
They are wild, but some are trusting, inquisitive, and unafraid...

Lovely shot!

Thank you Elena! This turtle was so huge. She swam right up to us! The turtles in Cozumel, especially the older ones, are used to divers.
